Betting Smarter on MLB Parlays: How to Build a High-Value Prop Bet Combo
As we get into the middle of the MLB betting season, we know top sportsbooks are perfect for summer, especially during the offseason lull for the NFL, NBA, and NHL.
Why Prop Bets Are Better Than Moneylines in MLB
Prop bets in baseball are the way to go, rather than betting team money lines or spreads. There are so many games in an MLB season that anything can happen from game to game, unlike in the NFL, where it is a bit easier to pick who is going to win a game. Good prop bets to take a look at for baseball can be player hits, total bases, innings pitched, and if you want to get a bit risky, you can even bet on player home runs. What I like to do is parlay my prop bets to get an even better payout.
A Sample MLB Prop Parlay
Here’s a prop bet parlay I put together using recent player form and trends:
- Aaron Judge 1+ Home Runs
- Brooks Lee 1+ hits
- Jose Altuve 1+ hits
- Tarik Skubal 8+ strikeouts
This parlay bet came out to around +982 odds, and a $100 bet would pay out over $1,000. Now with MLB parlays, they might seem a bit overwhelming to place and difficult to do research on since there are so many games playing each day. I like to look at the past few games to see how players have been playing and if those bets have hit in those, as well as looking at prior matchups against that team and seeing how that player played.
Why I Picked These Players
Aaron Judge for a Home Run
When looking at the parlay, there are a few things that went into making this one. With Aaron Judge having a monster year and leading the MLB in home runs, it’s more of an off day if Judge does not hit a home run. It’s a riskier bet, but if there’s anyone to bet on for a home run to add value to your odds, Judge is the guy.
Brooks Lee for 1+ Hit
For a guy like Brooks Lee, who isn’t usually on my list to bet on for hits, he had been on fire. I did some research and looked up current hit streaks in the MLB—and there was Lee. He had been on a strong hitting streak and had multi-hit games back-to-back. This is a good method to use to add to your bets because there are so many players in the league that you can forget who’s hot right now.
Jose Altuve for 1+ Hit
With Jose Altuve, he had also been hitting very well recently, including multiple hits in back-to-back games against the White Sox. It’s smart to include a low-risk, reliable leg in your parlay to anchor the bet.
Tarik Skubal for 8+ Strikeouts
When picking Skubal, I had looked at a recent game where he pitched against the Orioles. In that game, he threw 11 strikeouts and put on a really good performance. He had been just under that number in his previous two starts, but had thrown for more than eight strikeouts in several starts before that. So if Skubal can pitch to how he’s capable of—especially against a team he’s done well against—I believe this is a good bet to take and a good method to use to find out who to bet on.
Final Thoughts: Best MLB Parlays Bets Take Research
The MLB is a tough league to bet on, there are a lot of moving parts and guys get hot and cold at the drop of a hat. And there are 162 games throughout an MLB season so it is tough to bet on what can and cannot happen. But a lot of research and looking at stats can help a ton with knowing who to take.
